DAY ONE | Arrive OR TAMBO Johannesburg: Transfer to Hotel. Garden Court Sandton. Drive to Liliesleaf Liberation Centre where Rivonia Trialists were captured. Hear how ANC operated and theories that led to the capture and birthplace of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), military arm of ANC. Nelson Mandela was the first Commander in Chief, living underground at Liliesleaf as a caretaker named David Motsamayi. Drive back to the hotel. Dinner (for own account) |
DAY TWO | Depart after breakfast visit Apartheid Museum for Apartheid Museum Tour Soweto tour includes visit and tour Soccer Stadium and Regina Mundi Church. After lunch (for own account) in Soweto, visit Buskaid School to students in study and concert. CD’s will be on sale which support the school which is made up of students from the township. Buskaid students have played for inauguration, Michelle Obama, members of royal family and many distinguished occasions in South Africa and abroad. Visit Hector Petersen Memorial and Museum. |
DAY THREE | Depart after Breakfast, visit Pretoria. Visit Freedom Park reflecting tributes to all the fallen heroes in the Apartheid struggle. After Freedom Park, visit Jacaranda House and Union Building for a panoramic view of the city. This is the seat of government where inauguration of Nelson Mandela took place and where a magnificent statue resides, placed after his death. Drive to Gaabo Motho Cultural Village, to experience four different cultures. Your Host, Lilly Mokoena, the first Black person to win an international award at WTM London for promoting culture. Return to hotel after dinner. |
DAY FOUR | After Breakfast drive to Constitution Hill for a tour. See where some of leaders stayed while awaiting trial – Mahatma Gandhi, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe and Nelson Mandela to name a few. The Womens’ jail housed Winnie Mandela, Fatima Meer and Albertina Sisulu. Visit the court house which houses the old jail and new Constitutional Court with its beautiful Art Work. Visit Cradle of Humankind and Maropeng Visitor Center. Lunch at Maropeng Restaurant. After tour of Cradle of Humankind, return to hotel and dinner.

DAY FIVE | After breakfast attend Christ The King Church in Sofiatown. Father Trevor Huddleston, minister of this church, fought against Apartheid Regime and saved blacks from the gallows. Visit Rosebank Flea Market. Lunch (own account) at one of many places in Rosebank.

DAY SIX | After breakfast, transfer to OR Tambo Airport for flight to King Shaka International Airport. Visit Moses Mabhida Stadium and Sunny Singh’s The Story of Africa in the Making Museum, featuring contribution of South African Indians to Anti-Apartheid struggle. Sunny spent 10 years on Robben Island. Transfer to hotel for check in.

DAY SEVEN | Depart: 8:00am: KwaZulu Natal Freedom Tour Bus departs from North Beach Tourism, Golden Mile. DAY EIGHT | After breakfast depart Durban for Hluhluwe at 9:00AM. En-route visit Albert Luthuli Museum and Homestead in Groutville. Stop-overin Richards Bay for lunch 45 minutes. After lunch leave for Hluhluwe Hotel and check in. Dinner at hotel restaurant.

DAY NINE | Very Early Check out and departure (6:00am) for Safari Experience in Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, famous for its highly successful white rhino conservation program. The reserve is home to 84 species of game, including the “big Five” and an impressive 425 types of birds. Hluhluwe is characterized by hilly topography and particularly scenic reserve. Cultural tour and performance. Visit Ilala Weavers Village for a traditional lunch (at own account) and tour of the village. Dinner at Anew Hotel

DAY TEN | After breakfast, travel from Hluhluwe-Durban to King Shaka International Airport. Travel by road with a stop-over at Richards Bay for lunch. Depart for Cape Town in the late afternoon. Check into Lagoon Beach and Spa Hotel |
DAY ELEVEN | After breakfast, stop at Leather and Suede and dress shop, Table Mountain, Cape Point and Peninsula.

DAY TWELVE | After Breakfast visit St George’s Cathedral for 9:30am Service where Archbishop Tutu was inaugurated. Drive to Cape Point and Peninsula where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. View spectacular breathtaking scenery of the coastal drive. Visit Good Hope Nature Reserve, Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay Fishing, Harbour and Simons Town. Fishy Lunch (own account) at Hout Bay Harbour. Return to the Hotel. Free evening

DAY THIRTEEN | Tour of Cape Town. See the magnificent coast line. After lunch break, take the ferry to Robben Island. Meet Father Lapsley at the hotel for dinner, if he is in the country. He is an anti-apartheid activist and member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Visit Leather and Suede and Dress Shop if anyone needs fitting.

DAY FOURTEEN |
After breakfast, visit community programs. In the Langa Township, visit the Thembani Public Primary School. Make contact with Langsie a teacher at the school whose sister Thami Ngwevela was Consul General in New York and now Ambassador in Trinidad and Tobago. The community hall in Langa is named after her father who is was a well know leader in the struggle and served time on Robben Island. An opportunity to interact with the students in the classroom, speak with teachers and administrators of the school and in addition visit the library room which our group help established. Ambassador Ngwevela (our lunch host) has made arrangements for us to meet some women from Cape Town.
Lunch at Lelapa Restaurant in Langa, 49 Harlem Avenue, Langa with local entertainment and meeting with elders of the community. Return to the hotel.

DAY FIFTEEN | After breakfast, visit the famous cape winelands – Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are on the list. We will visit one cellar and experience two wine tastings. After the vineyard, leisure time to see the sights, explore and get in some last minute shopping. Suggestions: Dress shops, Village Flea Market and several quaint shops downtown. Dinner: Gold Restaurant in Green Point. Experience African dishes. Entertainment will be part of the dinner. |
